The story of Han Solo in his days of being a smuggler.
I was not looking forward to this movie at all. As a Star
Wars fan I was afraid that no director would tell a origins story of an iconic
character. No actor can portray Han like Harrison Ford can. In a whole, this
could’ve been a better story than what we got. It’s hard to believe Ron Howard
directed this. Is it bad? No but it’s not as good as it should be. Alden Ehrenreich
is a good Han Solo but at moments tries too hard. His
humor is not like the originals at all or have any good one liners. The best of
all the cast was Donald Glover who plays Lando. His mannerism and conversations
are exactly like Billy Dee Williams! The rest of the cast didn’t stand out as
much. Even Woody Harrelson was decent! That’s an actor who makes a great
outstanding character in every movie he’s in. He was mostly teaching Han about
what to do or not to do. That’s pretty much all he’s there for and showing off
how cool he is with a blaster. The story could’ve been a little better. It was
a heist movie that took too long then became predictable. The only great scene I liked was Han and Chewie meeting for the first time. Paul Bettany as the villain
of the film gets a little bit of screentime but you don’t know as much about
him as a character. I’m not saying it’s a terrible film and you should stay away
from it at all cost. It’s a mediocre movie that could’ve been done much better with more creativity
and writing. Ron Howard is a great director from movies like A Beautiful Mind, The
Missing, The Da Vinci Code, and plenty of great films he took time making. I
would say to wait to rent it and save your money to watch something else in
theaters. Verdict: 6.5.
